Most Popular Chemical Peels in San Diego & Carlsbad, CA
Do you sometimes wish you could have a “do-over” when it comes to your skin? While that’s not exactly possible, a chemical peel at our La Jolla and Carlsbad locations comes pretty close.
Chemical peels work by removing the top layers of skin—the dull, damaged, and generally “blah” layers—to reveal the healthier, smoother, and fresher-looking skin underneath.

Light Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are considered light, medium, or deep depending on how many layers of skin are affected by the peel.
Light peels remove only the topmost layers of skin, making them ideal for addressing modest sun damage, fine wrinkles, and mild acne scarring. They give an overall boost to the skin, and generally require minimal downtime and often no anesthetic.
SkinMedica Illuminize Peel
The Illuminize Peel is a milder formula that is appropriate for individuals seeking a gentle, superficial peel. The Illuminize Peel results in minimal discomfort while significantly improving the color and texture of your skin. This is a great choice for first-time chemical peel patients.
Lactic Acid Peel
As the name implies, the main ingredient in this mildest of peels is lactic acid, derived from milk products. It is an excellent peel for dry skin, and works to fade fine wrinkles, acne scars, and age spots. It also improves mild skin laxity. Lactic acid peels are ideal for the first-time patient as well as those who are pregnant or have sensitive skin.
Salicylic Acid Peel
This peel is designed to exfoliate your skin while encouraging the body’s natural collagen and elastin production. It is a popular option for patients with oiler skin or with acne, due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Fruit Enzyme Peel
This is an all-natural peel that uses enzymes and acids from fruit. It’s excellent for light exfoliation to soften rough patches and tone the skin.
Glycolic Acid Peel
A type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from sugar cane, glycolic acid encourages new cell regeneration and helps improve skin tone. Glycolic peels also help to relieve chronic dry skin.
SkinMedica Vitalize Peel
One of our most popular peels at LJC, the Vitalize Peel is a great option to treat fine lines and early signs of aging to reveal a smoother, more youthful complexion. A little stronger than the Illuminize Peel, the Vitalize is still considered a light peel, requiring little to no downtime.
Your Safety Is Our #1 Priority
Since 1988, more than 36,000 patients have had safe, successful procedures at La Jolla Cosmetic Medical Spa.
Our medium-depth peels reach further into the epidermis to address more severe damage, including scars, hyperpigmentation, and more progressive age spots.
These peels offer more dramatic results but also require a longer period of healing. Your practitioner will also provide you with a topical anesthetic to enhance your comfort during treatment, if necessary.
SkinMedica Rejuvenize Peel
If you have more severe discoloration or skin conditions, you might opt for the Rejuvenize Peel, which offers a deeper peel to address more advanced wrinkles, age spots, and roughness. This does result in slightly more discomfort and skin peeling, but the improvements can be dramatic.
PERFECT™ Derma Peel
This peel is a prescription-strength chemical peel that contains multiple antioxidants, including glutathione (a.k.a. the “master antioxidant”), resulting in a gentle, yet powerful peel that dramatically improves skin tone, texture, and appearance in a matter of days.
Jessner’s Peel
This is a popular medium-depth treatment featuring a mixture of salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol. It is excellent for evening out pigmentation, clearing pores, improving skin texture, and minimizing fine lines. Jessner’s peels are safe for most skin types, but they’re not recommended if you have certain allergies or chronic conditions. We will review your medical history at your consultation to ensure you receive safe, effective treatment.
Retin A Peel
Vitamin A is a key ingredient in this peel, making it a great option if you are noticing just how much the signs of aging are setting in and would like to see a lot less of those sunspots and wrinkles. It restores an overall more youthful appearance to your skin.
