MicroLaser Peel in San Diego
The MicroLaser Peel offers total skin rejuvenation with treatments that take only about as long as your morning shower. It is an epidermal peel that utilizes a short-pulsed Erbium laser to ablate the outermost layers of the skin. This treatment delivers consistently great results for people from La Jolla, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Oceanside, San Marcos, and surrounding areas who want to address fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and skin texture.
The MicroLaser Peel is a mid-level resurfacing treatment that precisely and effectively treats problem areas on the surface of the skin, including texture, fine wrinkles, scars, keratoses, and pigmentation lesions. All laser treatments are performed by talented San Diego Laser & Skincare Specialists.
Watch as our Director of Aesthetic Services, Lauren Amico Reed, PA-C, performs a MicroLaser Peel on a patient to treat problem areas and improve the texture of her skin.

Below, our team has answered the most common questions our patients have about the MicroLaser Peel before, during, and after treatment.
Q: Who should consider a MicroLaser Peel?
A: The ideal MicroLaser Peel patient is someone who is looking for total skin rejuvenation and long lasting improvement in skin tone, texture, wrinkles, and pigment. MicroLaser Peels are not recommended for all skin types. Some of the most commonly treated areas of the body include the face, neck, and hands. Depending on the desired depth of the peel, there is minimal discomfort and down time.
Q: What can you expect from a MicroLaser Peel?
A: After your MicroLaser Peel you may experience 2-7 days of redness, swelling and/or peeling depending on the treatment depth. Once you’re done healing, you should expect smoother, healthier, younger looking skin. The amount of improvement will vary from one person to another and depend on the aggressiveness of the treatment. Multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve your desired results. You can also get more dramatic results by combining MicroLaser Peel with another laser treatment, such as ProFractional.
Q: What does it feel like?
A: The treatment is very quick, lasting only 5-10 minutes. During treatment, patients tell us they feel a warm sensation. Immediately after treatment, the area will feel like you have a mild-moderate sunburn. The skin will be red and appear darker than untreated skin. Over the next couple days, the redness will fade and the darker skin could begin to peel. Following the post-laser skin care regimen that we recommend for you will speed up healing time and increase your comfort during recovery.

Enjoy pain-free laser treatments with add-on option PRO-NOX™
Every patient deserves a comfortable experience, so we now offer an add-on option to use PRO-NOX™ during laser treatments and other medical spa services at LJC.
What is PRO-NOX™?
PRO-NOX™ is a self-administered nitrous oxide (laughing gas) system that allows you to be in full control of your comfort. If at any point you feel you need something to take the edge off, simply breathe through the PRO-NOX™ mouthpiece for instant relief from pain and anxiety.
Unlike oral pain medication, PRO-NOX™ takes effect in seconds, but these effects wear off minutes after your treatment, leaving no trace of the chemical in your body. You can safely drive and return to your normal routine without worrying about side effects.
Ask us about adding PRO-NOX™ to your treatment at your consultation, or contact us for more information!
Your Safety Is Our #1 Priority
Since 1988, more than 36,000 patients have had safe, successful procedures at La Jolla Cosmetic Medical Spa.
A: Because MicroLaser Peels only affect the topmost layers of skin, most patients find that it’s not very painful at all. A topical anesthetic cream, applied 45-60 minutes prior to your treatment will enhance your comfort.
Q: Will I have to wear any type of dressing or bandage after the treatment?
A: No, you will not need to wear any dressing or bandage after the treatment. Hydrocortisone ointment is all you will need immediately after the treatment. However, because you’ll need to protect the treated area from the sun, we recommend that patients bring a hat and glasses to wear while leaving the office for comfort.
A: The healing process is different for each patient. Depending on your age, skin texture, the medications you take, your general health, and the depth of the peel, you will require more or less healing time. On average patients have about 3-7 days of healing. Residual redness may occur for up to 2 weeks but can be successfully covered by specialized laser makeup.
Q: How often will I need a MicroLaser Peel?
A: We recommend scheduling these treatments every 3-4 weeks until you see your desired results. After your initial MicroLaser Peel series, you should only need maintenance treatments to retain results.
Q: What are the risks of MicroLaser Peel?
A: The main risks of the MicroLaser Peel are associated with discoloration. This risk is uncommon due to the superficial nature of the peel and is temporary. Another known risk is a flare of herpes simplex around the mouth for patients who carry the virus. Patients with a history of herpes will be prescribed an antiviral prior to treatment.
