What comes to mind when you think of facial rejuvenation? It’s a phrase that encompasses everything from filler injections to a facelift. In San Diego, where sun damage is a year-round concern, plenty of patients at La Jolla Cosmetic Medical Spa ask about skincare and treatments to reverse early signs of aging. In fact, many of the women and men we see can benefit from a combination of facial rejuvenation procedures. And these combinations may include both surgical and nonsurgical options.
What’s the Best Facial Treatment for You?
One of the benefits of choosing a practice such as ours is getting advice from aesthetic specialists whose expertise enables them to recommend procedures designed to address specific concerns. In this blog post, we’ll answer some of the most common questions we hear from patients who want to know what’s the best treatment option for their certain conditions.
What should I do about crow’s feet?
Those crinkly lines at the corners of the eyes develop from a lifetime of changing facial expressions. Tiny muscle movements when we squint, smile, or even cry gradually create wrinkles. We can relax those muscles with BOTOX® injections to smooth these lines. And we can combine BOTOX with dermal fillers to give your face a more youthful appearance without surgery.
I have dark circles under my eyes. Will fillers help?
Fillers such as Restylane® Refyne can minimize those annoying dark circles and give you a more rested appearance. It’s important to first understand the reason for the dark circles before choosing a treatment. In some cases, laser skin resurfacing is a more appropriate option. The Vbeam® Perfecta laser, for example, targets blood vessels that may be causing the dark circles.
Do I need upper eyelid surgery or a brow lift?
This is a question that’s asked a lot, both in online forums such as RealSelf and at our La Jolla practice. It’s a good question because the answer is not always simple. Both procedures can create the more alert, rested appearance that patients want. Upper blepharoplasty, also called upper eyelid surgery, lifts drooping lids. These sagging lids could be age-related or an inherited trait. A brow lift or forehead lift is needed when the brow itself is heavy and sags; it’s also useful for smoothing wrinkled forehead skin. A personal consultation is needed to decide which is best for your situation.
Does a facelift also tighten skin on the neck?
Many plastic surgeons discuss facelift surgery as separate from a neck lift (which it is). But most facelift procedures are performed to also improve the neck’s appearance. A facelift addresses the lower portion of the face and is recommended for women and men whose jowls and sagging skin and tissue make them appear older than they feel. The technique can be modified to also tighten the skin and muscle on the neck, so the final results look natural.
