What Is JUVÉDERM?
JUVÉDERM is an injectable dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring sugar in the body that attracts water and adds volume. On top of working as a topical skincare ingredient—learn more in this blog post—it’s a safe, effective option for filler because it mimics a natural substance in your body and dissolves on its own over time.
Not all JUVÉDERM products are the same, though. The product line contains several different variations designed to address concerns in different areas. They’re all made of HA, but they vary in subtle ways, including their thickness, the amount of water they attract, and how long their results last.

What Is Each JUVÉDERM Product Used For?
Here’s a breakdown of how we use each formulation and how long you can expect your results to last.
JUVÉDERM
This original formulation is FDA-approved to treat moderate to deep folds in the midface, such as nasolabial folds (also called “smile lines,” “laugh lines,” or “parentheses”).
Results: In clinical studies, results lasted up to 6 months.
VOLUMA® XC
VOLUMA is a favorite for improving cheek contours and adding natural-looking volume. The formulation is thicker and less hydrophilic, meaning it attracts less water than other formulations for a more precise result.
Results: VOLUMA has a longer lifespan than other fillers, with results lasting up to 2 years.
VOLLURE® XC
VOLLURE treats nasolabial folds and other lines or folds around the mouth, including the marionette lines that run from the corners of your mouth down to your jawline.
Results: Results may last up to 18 months.
VOLBELLA® XC and JUVÉDERM Ultra & Ultra Plus XC
VOLBELLA, Ultra, and Ultra Plus work beautifully for lip injections, including plumping up the lips and softening lines around the mouth.
Results: Most people find their results last up to about a year.

What Is the Difference Between JUVÉDERM and Restylane®?
Restylane is another HA-based dermal filler that works very similarly. The main difference is the products are made by different manufacturers, so their ingredients and formulations are slightly different. Like JUVÉDERM, the Restylane product line also contains different options for treating specific areas of the face. Restylane KYSSE™ is quickly becoming a favorite for lip injections, for example.
